The digital health startup received FDA clearance for its carbon monoxide sensor to be used for smoking cessation without oversight from a healthcare provider. The expanded indication came after Carrot submitted the results of a single-arm study claiming its device increased people’s motivation to quit smoking.
Busy Burr, the founder of Humana Ventures, is joining digital health startup Carrot, which has developed a smoking cessation product. In September, another corporate VC, — Renee Ryan — formerly with J&J's venture arm, became CEO of digital neurology startup Cala Health.
JJDC led the round, while New York Life Ventures, Khosla Ventures, Marc Benioff, R7 Partners and Carrot founder David Utley also participated.
Minneapolis-based RedBrick will offer some of its customers access to Redwood City, California-based Carrot's smoking cessation platform called Pivot. Additionally, RedBrick will have category market exclusivity to market Pivot through 2018.
